A Civil War draft for Valentine was found among his daughter-in-law* Hannah’s papers after her death in October 1943. Dated August 26, 1863 when Valentine lived in Cumberland Valley Township [Bedford County, PA] it was signed by the Provost Marshall of the 16th District of Pennsylvania. Valentine was summoned to service on September 23, 1863. The summons was reported to be in the possession of Elmer [Byron] Lines [1911-1988 his great grandson].1190
