ELK GARDEN, W.Va. - Thomas Dale Watts, 65, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept. 13, 2004. The family is grateful to the Lord that his battle with brain cancer is over and he has received the ultimate healing as a child of God.

Thomas was born in Elk Garden, on March 21, 1939, the son of Frances (Hoopengarner) Watts and the late Glen L. Watts. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Debora Elaine Watts. Surviving is his wife, Shirley M. (Pyle) Watts; one daughter, Lesia A. and husband and James "Rick" Pennington; five brothers, Glenn L. and wife Sharon (Hartman) Watts, of Columbia, S.C., Gilbert T. and wife Faye (Bennear) Watts, of Fort Ashby, Clarence D. and wife Chris (Ubaldo) Watts, Baltimore, Daniel R. and wife Charlotte (Barnes), Cross, and Gary M. and wife Linda (Long) Watts, Keyser; two sisters, Sheila J. Harr and Harry Kelly, Baltimore and Marlene T. Simmons and husband Robert of Elk Garden; a granddaughter, Amanda Elaine Pennington; and several nieces and nephews.

Thomas was a retired U.S. Navy MSCS (SS) E8. During his 25-year Naval career, senior Chief Thomas D. Watts, served on the USS Forrestal, USS Wahoo, USS George C. Marshall and the USS Simon Bolivar. His numerous decorations include, the Navy Achievement medal, two Navy Commendations medals, the Navy Expeditionary medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary medal, seven good conduct awards and a Presidential unit citation. He was also a career counselor recruiter at Fairmont, Scranton, Pa. and Cumberland. He was also a Zone supervisor at Harrisburg. While he was a Navy recruiter and career counselor in charge of the recruiting office in Scranton, the Navy honored him as a recruiter of the year in the Harrisburg district. He also received the Commodore award for outstanding recruiting and the Navy Recruiting Zone award. He was also retired as a sales manager and manager of Peoples Security Insurance in Cumberland. He was a member of Davis Lodge 51 A. F. & A. M. of Keyser. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Abraham Lincoln Post 6735, Mount Storm and a member of the Elk Garden Assembly of God Church.

Friends will be received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Elk Garden Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Donald E. Marple, the Rev. Joe Tichinel and the Rev. Kenneth Caplinger officiating.

Interment will be in the Kalbaugh cemetery where Military honors will be accorded.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Oncology Clinic at Sacred Heart or the Potomac Valley Hospice. 247
