Misc. Notes
Ganer [sic] Passmore was born on the same farm in Pike township which was the birthplace of his son [George C.], his father Abraham Passmore, having been a pioneer settler there. After Ganer’s marriage he and his wife continued to live on the old Passmore homestead. They were members of the Methodist Episcopal church. They had five children, namely Joseph and Hiram, both of whom are deceased; Eli; Henrietta, who lives near Madera, Pa.; and George C, of Penn township.
____________

Gainer followed the business of hauling goods across the mountain. One evening, he stopped and put up at the Antis [Antes?] Tavern. In the morning he went out as usual to harness his team. Shortly afterward, he was found dead in the stable.1293
____________

Gainer Passmore IS in a census - with thanks to Erie Randall who provided me with this information

1830, 1840, 1850, Clearfield, Pa.

According to Erie Randalls' research in her e-book (which is available for purchase on line - a book about the McCracken Family)

"The Passmore Family"

"This family has been traced back another 8 generations...Abraham Passmore, father of Gainer Passmore was born in Chester co 11 Aug. 1764 and d. after 1840 in Pike Twp, Clearfield co. Pa.  He married Sussanna Peirce also born in Chester co. 27 Jan. 1769 to Gainer Peirce and Jane Underwood.  The name "Gainer" was the maiden name of Gainer Peirces' grandmother, Ann Gainer (Gaynor).*  Susanna (Peirce) Passmore died 29 Sept 1843 in Clearfield county.
Abraham Passmore moved to Clearfield Co. about 1802 where he raised a family of seven children and established himself in the business of farming and blacksmithing, a much sought after service of the community.

The first record of Abraham Passmore is in Franklin Twp., Huntingdon Co. in 1800 where he and his wife are in the 26 to 45 age group and the children are one male 10 to 16; three females under 10 and one in the 16 to 26 year age group.  The last record  of the family is found in the 1840 census in Pike Twp. Clearfield Co. where he is recorded as Abram Passmore and wife both age 70 to 80.

Gainer Passmore is last found on the Pike Twp. census in 1830 in Clearfield co. where he is listed as Gedion Passmore with three sons under 5, himself 20 to 30 and his wife age 20 to 30.

Gainer Passmore died 24 November 1834. Mary is found as the head of the household on the 1840 census, living Ferguson Twp. next door to her father Thomas McCracken and two brothers, Greenwood and William...  Her family is one male and one female 5 to 0 years old (Joseph and Henrietta) and one female under 5 (Leah) and Mary is listed 30 to 40 years old.

On the 1850 Census, in Penns Township Clearfield County Mary age 44, is living with her son Hiram age 21 as the head of the family and her daughter Leah, age 10 and another child, Dilila age 6.  Mary McCracken Passmore died 16 Jan. 1887."

Many thanks again to Erie Randall for this information...please patronize her website...her research is incredible.  This is quoted directly from her work.762
