Misc. Notes
Ann was born in England in 1846. In 1861, they arrived in Nauvoo another year [sic] to get enough money to bring the rest of the family over. They were all reunited for Christmas of 1862.

The family all worked for another eight months to earn enough money for wagons and supplies. In the fall, 1863, they left New York by rail to Fort Laramie, Wyoming. They then came on to Salt Lake in the Peter Nebeker Wagon Company arriving in October, 1863.

Ann’s parents and four of her family went to Summit, Iron County, Utah. After eight months they moved to Parawan [sic]. Ann went to work at the Muliner farm making butter, cheese and caring for the family. Because of her sweet disposition and friendly personality she was loved and respected by all.

Ann married Samuel Rowley on April 23, 1865 in Parowan, Iron, Utah.

Ann didn’t receive an education when she was younger so after she had five children she went to school in the afternoon to learn to read and write. About 1877, Ann’s father came to live the rest of his years with them.

On October 23, 1879, Ann, Samuel and family including a six week old baby, headed for the Escalante desert. The trip took six months and was one [of] the coldest winters in the area.

After six months of road building and hardships and suffering they reached San Juan on the evening of April 6, 1880. This turned out to be the first trip through Hole in the Rock.

The Indians stole the best horses and Samuel had to pay twenty-five dollars to get them back. During the winter of 1882, two year old John died of the measles. In June, 1884, they started back to Huntington but the Colorado River was too high to cross. So they moved to Mancus, Colorado. When the water was low enough they returned to Huntington.

Samuel purchased a homestead on Rowley flats, they planted fruit and shade trees.

Their younger son, Richard Edwin, was born on August 22, 1889. He passed away when he was seven years old. Ann passed away four years later on January 14, 1901 at the age of fifty-five.

Ann taught her family the value of work and love. They knew she was always available when they needed her. Ann was a devoted Relief Society worker.
