Athol Charles Rummings, 80, of Curwensville, passed away Friday August 8, 2008 at his residence after a lengthy illness.

Born May 17, 1928 in Olanta, he was the son of Kenneth D. and Dorothy (Mays) Rummings. Mr. Rummings was the owner of the former Rex Theater in Curwensville and along with his wife Bettie, owned the former Rummings Dry Cleaning in Curwensville. He also was a former Curwensville Borough Policeman, was elected to the Curwensville Borough Council having served his last term from 1999 to 2003.

He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War where he received a Bronze Star. He was a life member of the Curwensville Rescue Hose and Ladder Co. where he had been a member of the Fire Police, was the Fire Chief from 1970 thru 1973, and was a founding member of Curwensville Ambulance. He was a member of the Curwensville Alliance Church, Susquehanna Avenue, Curwensville.

On June 27, 1949 in Curwensville, he wed the former Bettie Jean Lucas who survives along with 3 children. Linda and husband Edward Johnson of Hepburnia, Kathie and husband George Simcox of Reynoldsville, and Scott C. Rummings of Curwensville. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Mr. Rummings was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Kevin Johnson, and a sister Ethel Sue Duttry. He was the last member of his generation.

Services for Mr. Rummings will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville, on Monday August 11, 2008 at 2:00 PM, with the Reverend Stephen Shields officiating. Interment will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park in Hyde, PA.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM, and on Monday from 12:00 Noon until time of services. The family suggests contributions be made to either the Curwensville Alliance Church or the Clearfield Foundation for Health - Hospice.

The Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville is in charge of the arrangements.
