LUTHER MAYS HOUTZDALE — Luther Mays 60, of Houtzdale, died Thursday at 8-05 p. m. in the Williamsport Hospital following a short illness. A son of William and Jenny (Johnston) Mays, he was born at Beulah Oct. 6, 1905. He was a life-long resident of this area He is survived by his wife the former Vera Thomas; his mother, Mrs. William Mays of Philipsburg; a sister, Mrs Lenora Spotts, of Philipsburg; and a brother, Ward Mayes, o Ramey. He was preceded in death by his father and by a brother Carl. He was a life-long member of the Houtzdsle Primitive Methodist Church He was a pas member of the board of trustee: of the church. He was a member of the Osceola Lodge o Free and Accepted Masons, the Altoona Consistory, and the Jaffa Shrine at Altoona. Friends will be received in the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home from this evening until 2 p. m Sunday, when service will be conducted by the Rev John Sargent Interment will be in the Brisbin I.O.O.F. Cemetery Masonic services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. tonight.

Mrs. Vera Mays HOUTZDALE - Mrs. Vera Mays, 78, of West Houtzdale died Sunday, Feb. 15 in the Lock Haven Hospital. Born in Houtzdale Jan. 17, 1903, she was the daughter of William and Mary (Jones) Thomas. She was married June 8, 1942 to Luther Mays, .who preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 1966. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. John (Catherine) Tibbens of Dunalo, and three brothers, William, Cyril and Melvin. She is survived by six brothers and sisters, Ira Thomas of Philipsburg, the Rev. Edward Thomas of Massachusetts, Gweldon Thomas and Mrs. George (Rella) Socie, both of Niagara Falls, N.Y., and Winifred and Olive Thomas, both of Lock Haven, and a number of" nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mays was a member of the Mt. ,Zion Primitive Methodist Church, the Ladies Aid and the Order of the Eastern Star, No. 150, Houtzdale. She was a teacher in Woodward Township, Houtzdale-Wood ward Brisbin and the Moshannon Valley schools. Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Zion Primitive Methodist Church, Houtzdale, with the Rev. William Esser officiating. Interment will be in the IOOF Cemetery, Brisbin. Friends will be received at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home, Houtzdale, from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
