The second son of late controversial activist Madalyn Murray O’Hair. He was also the half-brother of the reverend William “Bill” Murray. From 1986 until his death in 1995, Murray held the de jure office of President of American Atheists. It was a title without power however, as his mother retained authoritative control behind-the-scenes.
Fathered by [his mother Madalyn’s] then-boyfriend Michael Fiorillo. It is most likely that he never met his father. He had only one relationship in his life, which was short-lived.
Murray, a tall heavyset man with a speech impairment, was living with his mother Madalyn and niece (and adopted sister) Robin Murray O'Hair in Austin, Texas, when all three of them were abducted at gunpoint, tormented, and slain in San Antonio by one of their ex-employees.6883
In the 1990s, [his mother’s organization] American Atheists amounted to O'Hair, her son Jon, her granddaughter Robin Murray O'Hair, and a handful of support personnel. (Robin, the daughter of William Murray, was adopted by Madalyn. William had not seen nor spoken to any of them in many years.) The trio lived together in O'Hair's large home. They went to the office together, took vacations together, and returned home together.6882
