Boy Killed In Fall From Pickup Truck

Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Oakley yesterday for Christie Joe Robben, 8, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Robben, Sharon Springs, who suffered fatal injuries when he fell out of the back of a pickup truck.

The accident occurred at about 12:30 p.m. (MST) Friday as the boy went with his father, who was driving the truck, to field work about 2 miles southwest of Sharon Springs.

The pickup was going not more than 20 miles per hour as the driver had slowed the car to turn into the field. The boy somehow fell out on a hard dirt road. He sustained a fractured skull.

It was believed the boy had lost his hat and may have fallen out in an attempt to retrieve it.

He was rushed to Cheyenne Wells where an Air Force C47 from Lowry Air Force base flew the youngster to Denver for treatment at Children's hospital. Specialists accompanied him on the plane flight to Denver.

He died at about 4:00 a.m. (MST) in the hospital there without regaining consciousness.

The father is a native of the Angelus community and the mother is the former Daisy Bloom, Oakley. Christie is also survived by two sisters and three brothers and other relatives. The obituary appears elsewhere in this edition.

Christie Joe Robben, eldest son of Joe and Daisy Robben, was born May 27, 1951 and died June 7, 1959 at the age of 8 years, 10 days.
