Misc. Notes
Another early pioneer [of Curry Run, PA] was Arthur Bell son of Greenwood Bell. Arthur purchased 200 acres of land in 1824 at Bower which was Pike Township at this time. He was married to Catherine Haslet daughter of William Haslett. They made their home on the original land and over the years purchased an additional 1,400 acres of land. Arthur was very influential within the lumber industry and erected a saw mill on the Susquehanna River in 1843 and rafted his lumber to market on the river. Arthur being a prominent lumberman was one of the leading figures to establish a meeting in Clearfield to take legal action against the loggers. These actions were part of the cause of the rafters and loggers war that took place on the West Branch of the Susquehanna. John Bell, Arthur Bepll's son, purchased the original homestead from his father at the time of his marriage in 1862. John married Elizabeth Cook who passed away in 1875. After his father's death John purchased the interest of the other heirs until he owned one half of the remaining land. In 1876 Mr. Bell married Eliza Thomson and had a son AI Bell. John followed his father in the farming industry and also continued piloting lumber down the river every spring for 30 years. He made his last trip in 1891. John also held the position of postmaster at the Bower post office and both he and his wife were members of the Bower Baptist Church.6807

NOTE: The compiler of this database is not certain this is the same Arthur Bell, owing to the fact he would have had to be fairly old to have bought this land mentioned in 1824.
Since there is only one Greenwood Bell in my database I chose to add this Arthur here. If this were the correct Arthur, his father Greenwood would have been only 39-years old himself in 1824, which is not very likely. Note too there is additional information regarding the Haslet family on the preceeding page.3
