Another old citizen has been called to his rest. Thomas Walsh, died of old age last Thursday morning, February 14, 1884. Mr. Walsh was born in Ireland, January 1, 1808. In 1832, he married Miss Perry. Under this union one child was born, now Mrs. Lucian Stebbins of Nebraska. With his young bride, he came to America soon after his marriage. He was in New York, Rhode Island and Illinois. His first wife died about three years after they were married. He married Letitia Jones in Illinois in 1843. In 1853, they came to Iowa and located in Davis county coming to Butler county in 1862. They have since resided here. By this marriage, there are seven children, Arthur, William, James, Richard, Thomas and Robert Walsh and Mrs. Wm Odgen. His wife also survives him at the ripe old age of 68 years. Mr. Walsh was a member of the Untied Brethren Church, and a Christian as well as an upright and moral citizen. He died respected by all who knew him and dearly beloved by the members of his family. The funeral occurred Friday afternoon at Antioch Church. The sermon was preached by Rev. Geo. Graham. A large number of friends turned out to pay a last and fitting tribute of respect and affection to the sturdy character and generous qualities of an honest man and kind neighbor. After 76 years of honest toil, he was called to his reward leaving a large family of children and numerous friends to mourn his death and tell of his virtues. May his eternal dwelling place be in Paradise where virture has its reward and the Shamrock is ever green.
