Nellie first married widower, Charles Augustus Wheeler who was 18 years her senior in 1911. He later passed when she was about age 41, in 1933. Nellie and Charles had three children. Nellie later married John Peter Klepacki in 1938.

During her marriage, Nellie worked at Germain's Department Store on 4th Street, Brooklyn and she was the first New York City licensed movie theater "Matron" (Usher). She, and both of her husbands and children, while young, worked for the Sanders families' movie houses in Brooklyn, including the Globe Theater. In the mid 1920's, Nellie sewed extra long pockets in her boys' knickers to put coins and other found things from the theater seats, while cleaning after movie patrons left.

Second husband John Peter Klepacki worked in several types of jobs: Long shoreman; BM2 (Boatswains Mate- US-Navy WWII) Bouncer in a bar, Sander's family movie theaters, Pinkerton guard (1950's-1960s)

Nellie was a great cook; she made fantastic Sunday roast dinners for her visiting family.5955
