Her Parents, Brothers and Alcoholism

All or what I have ever met of the Lines’ were fine and upstanding human beings. I cannot and never will say that of Elmer, or my "mother.” The damage they caused mentally and psycologically to the brothers and sisters I "had" is mind boggling. It is honestly a true horror story, and something that most of the others refuse to discuss…. If I ever do share with you any of the things we went through, it could be too much for you to deal with, and none of it is any thing you or anyone else could have prevented…. The alchohol abuse had devastating effects on all those whose lives it controlled, and … I do not have any room in my life for that stupidy, and neither does my daughter and her family. It was such a sad thing to watch as every one of my brothers, grew up to be alchoholics, and their lives were all destroyed by it. The same big bothers that once consoled me, as a tiny tot, hugging me and promising that they were going to grow up, get their own place and take me to live with them to be safe. Now, at the ages we are, it is all a blurry memory of that affectrion and caring. They have been alcholics, most of them, since young teen years.1131

Her Faith in God

My pals and … child hood friends … praise me for my accomplishments [in] life. I have been told by them that it is a miracle I have not lived an addicted and immoral life style. It is due to God!! That is why so many of my posts are God or Christ focused, he has been my guiding force. When i became a mom, I forced myself to do whatever I had to to break the cycles. I was determined to give my children everything they needed to grow in to good people. It is nice to have friends that I can totatally relate to. Family and friends [are] what life is about. There are days that most of my posts are God or Christ related, for a reason: God has kept me safe through all the trauma, even though there was devstation and trauma. God was always there with me and keeping me alive and with hope. I post those things hoping that other members of my famiy that are living the addictions and doing wrong might be inspired, I give those things to God in full faith that as you well know only he can conquer… My middle name is Faith. Always liked that it was.

In the bible, those who had the most trials and tribulations are the ones that God used for his purpose. I do not see that as he made us suffer, for the sake of suffering, but for his purpose in our lives…. God has a purpose for me that will be revealed in his time. He generally comes to that purpose in our older ages. So maybe it will be revealed soon? If nothing else, perhaps to be a guding force for him, in helping others by a life testamony.820

Kick the Can

Sherry made the statement about how playing Kick the Can was one of the ways "we entertained ourselves as children, poor and growing up." In describing the game, she wrote: "in warm weather, we could get an old vegetable can from the trash, place it on the nearest mound or hill, someone would be deginated as "It" to start the game, the "It" would be the one to kick the can over the hill, and as soon as it is kicked, retrieve it to the top of the hill, while all the other kids hid. Oh, and it was only played when dark outside. The "it" person would go and try to seek the kids that hid. If one or any of the kids got to the can that was placed at the hill, they would re-kick it over the hill, until othe riginal “it” person had to retrieve and place atop the mount. Needless to say, I being one of the smaller, I never won. To win, you would have to tag all the kids without them kicking the can back over the hill. It was a variation on hide and seek. Also we just loved to take you city slickers snipe hunting, surely you were initiated into that?1139
