Retired Huntingdon Dentist Dies
Dr. Robert F. Beatty, formerly of 423 Washington Street, Huntingdon, died at 3 p.m., Wednesday, April 12, 1967, at the Torrance State Hospital, Torrance, Westmoreland County. He was 87 years of age. He had been in failing health for the past one and a half years.
Dr. Beatty was born July 4, 1879, at Buck Valley, Fulton County, near Hancock, MD., a son of William and Augusta (Fischer) Beatty. He was united in marriage to Ellen Lee who preceded him in death in 1948. He taught school at Lewistown, Chester, Petersburg, and Mapleton Depot; then went to the University of Pennsylvania School of Dentistry, getting his degree in 1915.
Soon after graduation he opened an office in Huntingdon and followed the profession until his retirement in 1963.
Since November 1965 he had been living with his in New Kensington. Dr. Beatty was an active member of the First United Methodist of Huntingdon. He served on the board for many years and taught the Beatty Sunday School class for more than 20 years. He was a former member and past president of the Huntingdon Kiwanis Club. He belonged to the F. & A. M., Mt. Moriah Lodge, No 300, Huntingdon. He was a charter member of the Huntingdon County Motor Club and was a director and past president of the organization for many years.
Dr. Beatty is survived by the following children: Robert L. Beatty, New Kensington; Mrs. Carmen Keihner, Hackensack, NJ; Mrs. Dorothy Myers, Erie; and Mrs. Augusta Smith, Huntingdon, R.D.1. Four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Brown's funeral in Huntingdon. The Rev. Orville V. Varner will officiate and interment will be made in Riverview Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Friday and until the hour of service on Saturday.
