Misc. Notes
John Johnston, son of the original William and Eliza Johnston, traveled by horse and wagon to Curwensville to pick up Keystone Ice Cream. The trip began at 3:00 a.m. and was a necessary task to provide the treat at the picnic held in Curry Run. The ice cream was shipped in wooden buckets and packed in straw and ice. This event took place in 1916 and was accomplished by traveling over dirt roads for several miles. Ninety years later John’s great-nephew, Duane Johnston, provides homemade ice cream to the people attending the Curry Run Picnic. Duane packs his in a cooler and drives 10 minutes in his automobile to deliver the ice cream to the picnic which is held at the same location as the original picnic was. The people of Curry Run must tip their hats to the Johnston family for their love of ice cream. [The same Duane Johnston?]6095
