Mary and I are not blood relatives, but through marriage we have a connection. That connection is my 2nd cousin, 3 generations removed Charlotte Bloom (1883-1929). Charlotte’s husband John Scott Hancock (1881-1958) is Mary’s 10th cousin 1 generation removed. See more on this subject with my fellow family historian, Mary’s husband, Bill’s notes.4650

I saw a brief message of Bills on a clearfield-genealogy yahoo groups email and checked his web site. We began exchanging emails and some information shortly after. He's retired from GE, a Ham Radio operator. Loves going on cruises and works for a Search & Rescue organization. At one time I thought we might be related as he indicated Mary Ann Bloom and her husband William Lines were in his (?) family tree as well as other Blooms and Lines'. For the longest time I had not been able to determine how and if we were related.

It turns out he tells me it’s his wife with whom I am connected. But it took several years to figure it out after I requested and he sent me a relationship chart on 9 January 2016. It wasn’t until 9 March 2016 that I entered his data into my computer. I found that Bill’s wife Mary and I are not blood relatives, but through marriage we have a connection. That connection is my 2nd cousin, 3 generations removed Charlotte Bloom (1883-1929). Charlotte’s husband John Scott Hancock (1881-1958) is Mary’s 10th cousin 1 generation removed. So as Bill wrote in reply to my 9 January inquiry, how we were related… “It’s complicated!”4650
