Button Gwinnett has one of the most famous signatures in American history. This second signer of the Declaration of Independence (first signature on the left) has a Georgia county named for him. His autograph, of which there are fifty-one known examples, is among the most valuable in the world, valued only behind the likes of Julius Caesar and William Shakespeare. Gwinnett was killed when he challenged a bitter political rival to a duel.
