Capt. R. C. Passmore
 
Funeral for retired steamboat captain Ray C. Passmore, 85, will be Thursday at 3 pm in the Mt. Scott Funeral Home.  Interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Park.
 
Capt. Passmore died in the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital in Seattle Saturday.
 
He was born in Kerrmore County, Pa. May 24, 1886,  Ge nived frin a farn gine tgere ti Oirtkabd abiyt 1910 when he signed on as a deckhand with the Clatskanie Transportation Co.  He worked up to first mate and ultimately captain in the steamboat trade, last working with Babbage, Holt, and Shaver Transporttion co.
 
With a reduction of river shipping about 1948, Capt. Passmore moved to Astoria where he worked with ferries crossing the Columbia between Astoria and Megler.  He returned to Portland in 1969, making his home in Westmoreland Manor.
 
Capt. Passmore was a charter member of Masters, Mates, and Pilots Union, Local 17; a member of Al Kadar Shrine; a life member of the Masonic Lodge; and a member of Knights Templar Chapter 11.
 
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Lillian Miller, Portland; two sisters, Mary Passmore and Mrs. Lina Young; three brothers, Frank, John and Jospeh, all of Pennsylvania, a brother Oral of Walla Walla, Wash. two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
 
The family suggests remembrances be contributions to the American Cancer Society
