ObituaryFuneral services will be held here for Stacey C. Thompson, 88 years old, former State Representative, newspaper editor, civic leader, and real estate dealer. He leaves his wife, Marion; two sons, Walter S. of Detroit and Stacey Jr. of Manistee, and three daughters, Mrs. Bessie B. Porter of Oakland, CA and
Ida May and Gail, of Manistee.

S.C. Thompson dies Saturday
Stacy C. Thompson, prominent resident of Manistee for many years, died late Saturday afternoon at his home on Washington St. after an extended illness. He was 88 years old.
Mr. Thompson was born in Pennsylvania in 1856 and came to Manistee in 1870, making his home here ever. During the first 25 years of his residence here he was engaged in the printing and publishing business, leaving it in 1893 to take over an irrigation project in Bellefourche, S. Dak., which he served as president and manager for 17 years. He also had real estate holdings here.
Mr. Thompson served the community for two terms as president of the Board of Commerce, as a member of the Board of Education for three years, and for several years represented the first district on the city commission. His political career dates back to 1907 when he was elected a member of the Michigan legislature from this county. Five years later he became probate judge, a post he filled for a period of four years.
Married in 1874 to Ida M. Goodenow of Albion, Mr. Thompson became the father of three children: Claudia G., Walter S. and Bessie B. The mother died in 1906, and the following year Mr. Thompson married Marian F. Kubine Smith. To this union three children were born: Ida May, Stacy W. and Gayle W.
Surviving are his widow; two sons, Walter S. and Stacy W.; three daughters; Mrs. Bessie Porter, Mrs. Ida May Jach, and Mrs. Gayle McKinley. He also leaves 13 grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock from the Bradford funeral home with Mrs. Truman Smith reader for Christian Science Services. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Stacey Thompson, who was at one time connected with the Recorder, of this village, called upon us a few days since. It will be remembered that while here, he married the daughter of Walter Goodenow, then proprietor of the Albion House. Stacey now has three children, wears good clothes (for a printer!)
and is about to start an Independent paper at Manistee, where he resides.
