Misc. Notes
William the oldest of the children of Robert McCracken was born March 10th 1807 in the newly formed Clearfield County. Clearfield was still under the governmental jurisdiction of Centre County that had just a few months earlier, December of 1806, commissioned Alexander Read to take the first count of taxable men and property in Chincleclamousche Township.
Among those in the territory at that time were Greenwood Bell, the father of [William's wife] Mary Elizabeth and Robert McCracken, William’s father. William was only six years old when his parents moved to the McNaul farm where he grew up.
William was an elder in the Presbyterian Church there through the years.
4687____________
William cleared out a farm in Ferguson Township, between New Millport and Kerrmoor, and raised a large family of children. He later sold this farm to Thomas Norris and moved to the State of Virginia where he resided a few years, later returning to Clearfield County and purchased a property near Pine Grove, in Lawrence Township, on which his grandson, William McCracken, now [1931] lives. He and his wife both died here.
Besides filling many local positions of trust, he was elected to the office of County Commissioner in 1859 and served a three year term.
