Joseph was a prominent citizen of the township, at that time. In 1827, he was elected one of the County Commissioners. Joseph Hoover lived in Pike township nearly all his life after his marriage.

His family consisted of nine daughters and four sons. Mr. Hoover and wife lived to see all their children married and comfortably located in homes of their own.2362
