The following excerpts are from the will of Hugh Jordan, Clearfield County Will Book A, page 76

“Item I give and bequeath to my granddaughter Elizabeth J. McCracken daughter of James McCracken the sum of seventy five dollars payable at the decease of my wife Ann Jordan it being a compensation for services rendered over and above what she has already received.” “In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the Eighteenth day of September one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven. Signed --- Hugh Jordan

“Whereas I am entitled to certain real and personal estate by virtue of a deed of trust made the 28th day of September 1837 coming from the estate of Martha Polk of Cecil County State of Maryland which was conveyed by myself and Ann Jordan my wife to Josiah W. Smith in trust. Now whatsoever balance there remains of the said real or personal estate at my decease after deducting the expense of said trust I do hereby give and device to Elizabeth J. McCracken one hundred dollars to be paid her by my said trustee out of the said real or personal estate when he the said Josiah W. Smith receives the same and after the payment of the above should there be any balance I direct and appoint my said trustee to pay the same to my daughter Elizabeth wife of Truman Viets In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal to the above codicil the 25th December 1839.” Signed --- Hugh Jordan

“I do give and device to my grandson Joseph Jordan the grey colt now about three years old. In case the one hundred dollars devised to Elizabeth J. McCracken out of the trust estate cannot be received by my trustee Josiah W. Smith I then ??? and direct that the said one hundred dollars be paid to her out of the sale of my personal property generally. I further authorize direct and appoint Josiah W. Smith my trustee to sell and convey in fee simple the sole real estate vested in him by deed of trust of 28 September 1837 the devisees to Elizabeth J. McCracken are in the place and in consideration of her personal services and therefore no bill is to be brought by her.”

Benjamin Jordan had a brother Hugh, who came here about the same time, 1803, and settled on the ridge near the place afterward known as the " Irish- town Settlement." Hugh Jordon was made associate judge of the county, and Jordon township was named in his honor.2499 [Is this the same Hugh?]
