Notes from Jane Ward: Thomas Ruby (Sr.) was born about 1728 and arrived in Maryland in February of 1741 or 1742. In 1777 he signed an Oath of Allegiance & Fidelity to U.S.
The Ruby family has been traced to Switzerland, most likely of Slavic origin. Some families spread into France and became Huguenots, fled to England. Thomas Ruby came to U.S. on the ship, "Industry" with Captain C. Banard. At that time England was giving free passage to America to those guilty of minor crimes. Thomas could have come to US under this plan. Thomas, Jr., would have been about 14 years old. Thomas, Sr., spouse is unknown.
