The State of New Jersey Archives indicates a local militia company was commanded by Philip Mettler. Serving in the same company was a Johann Peter Blum [1731-1814?] and a son. This Johann is presumably, per this source, the father of Phillip’s brother-in-law, William Bloom (1752-1828). William was the husband of Phillip’s sister Mary.4655
