At some point during his life, his father, James Wesley Sandoe, began spelling their surname SANDOW.
Robert or Bobby suffered some mental disability and never progressed much beyond about a 5 year old's mental state. Apparently, he was exceptionally bright as a toddler. We do not know if he was born with a problem or developed one as a result of an accident or illness. When I was a child, I (Lori Peters Lopez) remember living on 4th Avenue in College Hill near where Uncle Jim and Aunt Velma lived. They lived in a house, or a duplex type house, that was situated behind a large apartment building. At the time in the early 1970's, that apartment building consisted of two big buildings, one housed ordinary families and the other was a dormitory for young male students from Geneva College. We easily lived within walking distance and I recall visiting there with my mother once, but the visit I really remember was that I went there once on my own when I was about 8 years old. It was at Easter time and Bobby and I had the best time playing with our Easter toys from our Easter baskets that afternoon. I usually only got one big toy like a stuffed animal or something and candy, of course, but Bobby got little wind up bunnies and all sorts of things and I just thought that was so cool. At that time, Bobby would have been in his 40's as he was older than my mother.
