He served as a private in the Revolutionary War and his widow applied for a pension on 9 May 1833, which was granted. His enlistments are thus stated in the records of the Bureau of Pensions:

Dec 1776 for three months under Capt. Marcus Moseman, Col. Thomas;
Sept 1777 for one month under the same, and three months under Capt. Olmstead, Col. Thomas;

Feb 1779 for two months under Capt. John Thomas, Col. Thomas; in 1779 for eighteen months under Catp. Moseman, Col. Thomas; and in 1782 for six months under Capt. Thomas Hunt, Col. Weisenfeldt.

Stephen and Sally are buried on a farm, situated on the road from Bedford to Mt. Kisco, NY. The inscriptions on their gravestones read:

"Stephen Lounsbery died December 3, 1839, aged 81 yrs 10 months" and "Sarah, wife of Stephen Lounsbery, died February 27, 1852, aged 87 yrs." His will was dated 11 Sep 1834 and proved 27 Jan 1840.
