____________

In a story passed down from her mother-in-law, Laura Corrigan Sandoe, because Bill was only 16 years old at the time, their marriage was apparently the subject of gossip among the neighbors. Laura reported that there was nothing questionable about the union though, it was simply that Iona and Bill wanted to get married and his parents agreed to the match.

Iona was much beloved by anyone who knew her. She was reported to be a kind and gentle soul who desperately wanted to have children. She could not have a baby, however, due to her medical conditions. When a new doctor advised her that she could, in fact, have a child she ignored the advice of her other doctors and became pregnant.

She died in childbirth on April 2, 1943. She was so loved by the children of the community that they had to close the school on the day of her funeral because of the great number school children who were attending her services.

She is buried in Grove Cemetery, New Brighton, Beaver County, Pennsylvania.1106
