When Johnston’s Army, threatened the invasion of SL [Salt Lake] Valley, in 1858, David’s father was away on a mission. His mother moved the family to Lehi. Older brother Evans was twenty years old and away from home, so eight year old David, drove a wagon load of flour, while his brother Caleb, age nine drove the livestock as they went south for the threat.
