Following his father’s death in 1843, Joseph, the eldest son* at fifteen became the “man of the house.” His mother sent him to work for the Prophet Joseph [Smith].
With his family he came to Utah by handcart in Captain Allen Weeks Company in 1848, for the most primitive years of struggle on the frontier. [See his mother’s notes].
1067There is a biography and list of children of Amy Amillia Jones (1832-1912) who was married to a Joseph G. Garlick (d. 28 Dec 1915) at this source. They had a son Joseph Gaston Jr. and Joseph Sr.s age at the time of their marriage is accurate. [The same Joseph?]
