Joshua Deweese was a Baptist minister. lie was educated as a Presbyterian, but afterwards became a Baptist. In 1791, he moved to the backwoods on account of failing health. He married three times: First, Elizabeth Bowman; second, Hannah Birch, third, Elizabeth New. By his third wife he had ten children, nearly all of whom settled in Virginia or in the Western States.
