A Cornelius Deweese (1720-1786) left his family in "Germantown" PA area and migrated apparently as an adult to Charleston SC.

He was successful in business, and successful in making the British angry during the Revolutionary War. Cornelius owned Deweese Island in Charleston County, SC at that time. I am descended from a daughter of his second wife.

The island is BEAUTIFUL, now being preserved with strick [sic] regulations to ensure it will be a wildlife sanctuary.4252

Dewees Island is a residential community on a barrier island near Charleston, South Carolina. The environmentally-conscious community is designed to live in harmony with its natural surroundings. There are no cars on Dewees Island, as the community is designed to be environmentally friendly. Instead, the Aggie Gray ferry boat runs between the Isle of Palms and Dewees Island.
