When is son Leslie refused to pay child support for his son, that would become President, the Kings ensured that their grandson would not be deprived. They paid child support to Dorothy until 1929, shortly before their deaths.

Charles was known for founding of cities in Nebraska and Wyoming. Instrumental in the development of Chadron, Nebraska where he lived and where two of his five children were born, including Leslie.
