Dr. Oscar Dewees died in 1859 … and you can imagine some of the history of that young family from PA now in MS just in time for the WAR. But Mary Wharton Bryan had spunk and she was well loved by all who knew her.  You might find it interesting that she was the great granddaughter of the noted Col. Timothy Matlack, scribe of the Declaration of Independence as well as "Fighting Quaker" of Philadelphia.
