Amanda "Mant" was a hard worker like the other women of her day. With a large family, 10 children, four that died in infancy, she was responsible for raising the children and keeping the house in order.
She always was baking bread and pies for her family Daughter Clara remembers wash day helping her mom and Aunt Susan who lived with them. Her love of gardening was evident in all her many flower beds around the yard. She spoke German but wanted the children to speak only English.
She died June 13, 1936, at the age of 59 from cancer and is buried in Union Cemetery Meyersdale.

Charles was a lumberman in Bedford Co. before moving to Meyersdale Pa. then he was a miner and a farm hand, tall man with piercing blue eyes, he was exceptional with figures. You could ask him and he would just figure it out in his head.
His daughter Clara remembers her Pop saying the farmer he worked for children being particularly noisy at the table. It was a family joke to call his children the" Mimmas" when they misbehaved. According to son Paul, while driving one day a pet chipmunk got loose in the car and nearly caused a wreck. He wasn't amused.
After the death of Amanda he married Edith Swearman* and died on his birthday in 1953.
