Obituary

Kenneth D. Veihdeffer, 63, of 1819 Washington Ave., Hyde, a businessman in that community, an Army veteran and a prisoner of war for 26 months during the Korean Conflict, died at his home Saturday, Feb. 9, 1991.

He had been the owner-operator of Ken’s Barber and Beauty Shop in Hyde since 1957 and was currently a foreman at Howe’s Leather Co. in the furnishing department.

He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, the United Commercial Travelers Philipsburg Council No. 621, life member of the Hyde Volunteer Fire Co., member of the Old Town Sportsmen’s Association, the Clearfield County Volunteer Firemens’s Association, and the American Ex-Prisoners of War Inc., Southern Alleghenies Chapeter.

He was born in Clearield July 18, 1927, a son of Fred and Virginia (Shubert) Veihdeffer. He is survived by his wife, the former Gloria L. Fetters whom he married Sept. 6, 1960, a son Kenneth L. Veihdeffer, Curwensville R.D., and a daughter, Karen L. Veihdeffer, at home.

These brothers and sisters survive: Elizabeth Haversack, James Veihdeffer, Howard Veihdeffer, Robert Veihdeffer and Regis Veihdeffer, all of Hyde; Charles Veihdeffer, Niagara Falls, N.Y., and Katherine Hertzog, Williamsport.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Leonard.

Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Francis Catholic Chuch, Clearfield, on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. with Father John B. Jacquel as the celebrant.

Interment will be in Crown Crest Memorial Park. Military honors at the graveside will be by members of the Clearfield American Legion and VFW Posts.

Friends may call at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home Inc., Clearield, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., and until the hour of services on Wednesday. A Christian Vigil Service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday.

The family suggests that contributions be made to either the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
