Misc. Notes
Elizabeth was of Pennsylvania Dutch parentage and spoke German in the home. It was hard for her to speak English. She died about ten weeks after [her son] my grandfather (George W. Powell) was born.

The author of my info says she can remember her father, Isaac, and her grandfather (guess that would be Samuel) going to Iowa to try to locate her grave, but there was no record of the location of her grave.  It is thought to be in one of the driveways.2707

____________

I'm curious as to why [Samuel and Elizabeth] moved so far away too.  Maybe they knew someone who was already there. I did discover that [daughter] Savannah's family was living in Decatur Co, Kansas according to the 1880 census, with four children who were all born in Iowa, so they didn't move right away or directly to Idaho.

Samuel was also listed on the census and all were farming. [Samuel’s boys] John Wesley and George (my grandfather) were the only children listed with him.  Maybe his wife & all the other kids were still in Iowa. Who knows?

I'm sure farming was a very bleak existence in Kansas at that time.  They probably were living in a dugout.2705
