Jacobus was the great-great grandfather of U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt.

He was admitted a freeman of the city of New York on February 22, 1774. On July 14, 1774 he married the widow, Elenora (or Helena) Thompson Gibson, by whom he had one daughter, Ann.

He was said to have been looked upon by British colonial officers as a Dutch malcontent. During the revolution he served in the New York Militia, and was killed at Fort Montgomery* on October 6, 1777. He was the great-great grandfather of U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt.

Jacobus and Annatje were the parents of eleven children. He and his second wife had one daughter. The children are listed in the general source.

*Fort Montgomery [where Jacobus died] is the name of a fortification built on the Hudson River during the American Revolution. It was one of the first major investments by the Americans in strategic construction projects.
