Obituary

Alfred A. Long was born in Snyder county October 4, 1836 and died in Curwensville April 21, 1923. His parents were Samuel and Madaline Arnold Long.

In his early youth his parents moved to Clearfield County. Locating to Pike Township near Bloomington in the virgin forest. They cleared the land and built their own buildings. After reaching manhood he purchased the farm on which he was raised and helped clear it and followed lumbering and farming until the year 1883. Then he moved to Curwensville and engaged in the general mercantile business the remainder of his life. With the exception of a short period then failing health caused him to retire about 12 years ago.

He was a life-long member of the Lutheran church and was one of the prime movers in the organization and building the Grace Lutheran church in Curwensville.

On May 31, 1857, he married Eliza Bloom, daughter of John and Mary Ann Bloom, of Pike township, who preceded him to the grave over six years ago. They had three daughters, Mrs. F. S. Farrell, who with her three children was lost in the Johnston flood; Mrs. J. Roll Bloom, who died in 1899, and Mrs. W. S. Greer who survives and with whom he has made his home the past few years. He is survived by the following brothers and sisters; Mrs. John Cupples, Topeka, Kas.; Aaron Long, Dentonville, Kas.; D. C. Long, Akron, O.; Mrs. J. H. Mason, Lincoln, Neb., and Mrs. Arza K. Irwin, Akron, O.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday afternoon.2557
