Misc. Notes
The first child and only son of Henry Snyder Antes James [and his older cousin John] served in the Civil War. They appear to have enlisted together in Company G of the 13th Regiment of Pennsylvania Cavalry Volunteers on August 12, 1862. James served until July 14 1865, was discharged from the Army of the Potomac in Raleigh, North Carolina.

There were other Antes relatives in the Civil War, and I believe there was more than one John. The Jersey Shore John [who] was James' cousin, was several years older, and was discharged as a sergeant. I have almost all of James' Civil War and pension records, but little direct on John.

Shortly after his marriage to Celstia the couple moved to Elmira, NY, where he died in
1924.945

Born December 2, 1843 in Lycoming C0unty, Pennsylvania.
Enlisted Jersey Shore, Pa Aug. 12 1862 as a private of Company G,
13th Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry. Mustered in Sept. 4. Promoted to
Corporal, Sargeant and 1st Sargeant. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant to
rank from Nov. 26 1864. Detailed to service Provost Marshal Staff of
3rd Brigade, 3rd Division, Kilpatricks Cavalry. Mustered out July 14 1965, at
Raleigh, North Carolina.

The 13th Pennsylvania volunteer Cavalry was organized at Philadelphia, Pa.,
and Baltimore, Md., Dec. 1861 to Aug 1862. James A. Gallagher, Colonel; Peter C.
Shannon, Lieutenant Colonel; Henry A. White, Martin J. Byrne, and
Michael Kerwin, Majors. Served in the Defenses of Baltimore, and Rail-
Road Division, 8th Corps, Middle Department from May 1862. Milroys
Division and 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, 8th Corps, Middle Department, from
Feb. 1863. 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division, Cavalry Corps, Army of the Potomac from
July 1863. With the 5th Corps, Feb to May 1864. 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division, Cavalry
Corps, Army of the Potomac from June 1864. 3rd Brigade, 3rd Division, Cavalry
Corps, Military Division of Mississippi, from April 1865. Department of
