Misc. Notes
In 1860, three other Antes households [beside the census listing Henry and Lucy’s family, in Family notes section of this record] were listed for Nippenose Township.
That of William, age 48, with Ellen - 45, a son Harrison - 16, and 3 daughters - Sarah - 22, Elizabeth - 21, and Margaret - 17.
That of John - 48, with Margaret - 40, Margaret E. - 5, and Margery - 3 months.
That of John - 75, with Hannah - 37, Mary E. - 31, Joseph - 28, and Peter - 30.
I believe that the younger Joseph Antes enlisted in the Union Army at the same time as James M. [son of Henry Snyder ANTES], and was discharged in 1865 as a sergeant.

[T]he 1850 Nippenose Twp., Lycoming County census ... shows an Antes household consisting of Joseph, 65; Dorcas, 56; Hannah, 26; Mary E, 21; and Joseph, 18; and another consisting of Henry, 32; Lucy Ann, 30; James M, 7; and Catherine A, 5.... I believe those two households are listed next to each other.
Joseph and Henry S. are listed next to each other in 1860.

In the 1860 census for Nippenose Township in Central Pennsylvania (entry 4 on page 599) Henry S. Antes (age 42) and his wife Lucy (38) are listed with three children, James M. - 18, Catherine A. - 13, and Mary F. - 4. The 1860 census listed Henry S. Antes as a farmer, and indicated the value of his assets as about $300, but did not indicate that he owned any land. James M. was listed as a farmer when he enlisted.
