Garry Bishop Caldwell, son of Matthew Caldwell, was a native of Clearfield county, born September 8, 1826, died in West Virginia, May 27, 1904. He, like his father, was an elder in the Presbyterian church.

He married, December 14. 1853, Jane Read, born October 7, 1827, died April 30, 1871. She was the daughter of John R. Read, born in Cecil county, Maryland, July 12, 1789, and Mary Reed, born in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania. February 4, 1793, married December 26, 1816.

Their children were: William A., born October 22, 1817; Eliza, born March 19, 1819; Martha, born December 21, 1821; Jemima, born March 24, 1823; Louisa, born July 10. 1825; Jane, married Garry Bishop Caldwell, mentioned above; Miles, July 24, 1830. John R. Read was a farmer by occupation; in his politics he was Democratic and in religion a Presbyterian; he was the son of Alexander Read and Jemima (Alexander) Read: his wife, Mary Reed, was the daughter of William and Rebecca Reed.1984
