This record of the 1850 census indicates 12 year old Lewis and his 16 year old sister Adeline were living with their grandparents, William and Mary Bloom. [No doubt due to the death of their mother 5 years earlier].1854

The "Susquehanna House," recently razed [1949] when the highway was relocated, was the second of that name, the first one likely at the base of the hill and owned by Paul Clover. Among the proprietors of the recent hotel were: Eli Bloom, Newton Read, Lewis C. Bloom who built the Central Hotel about 1881 or 1882.1840

L. C. Bloom Stricken On Saturday Fails To Respond To Medical Treatment
SECOND WIFE SURVIVES HIM
A cloud of deep and genuine sorrow spread this community on Tuesday morning when the announcement was made that Lewis C. Bloom, one of Curwensville's oldest and most highly esteemed citizens, had ended his earthly fight and passed into the great beyond. He was stricken last Saturday but medical skill and care were without avail and his soul answered the mysterious call from on high.
Lewis Casper Bloom was the fifth son of John R. and Sarah B. Bloom, and was born in Clearfield on January 20th, 1838, His father died about four years later and the mother moved to her father's home in Pike township where she with her young son resided for about one year, and then moved to Center County, where they made their home until 1847, when the subject of this sketch returned to his grandfather's, Wm. Bloom, in Pike Township and there made his home until the date of his marriage which occurred in September 1850, he choosing for a helpmeet Miss Sarah C. Miller, of Lancaster, Pa., the ceremony taking place in Altoona.
The couple came to Curwensville immediately and went to house keeping in a house where the Maxwell property is now located. After several years residence there, the family removed to Lawrence Twp. and remained there until Mr. Bloom took active charge of the Susquehanna House in the spring of 1880. He conducted that place for about three years and then sold out, retiring to private live.
In 1884 he commenced the erection of the Central hotel, on south Filbert street and the next year moved into it and conducted the hotel until the year he disposed of the building and contents to the late Thomas Casey, and since that time has been living he life of a private citizen.
Mr. Bloom had many friends in Curwensville and in the county. Very quiet in demeanor, he was not much of a man to talk about his acts, but his friends all were aware that toward the poor and needy he divided his abare of this world's goods.
He was a consistent member of the Presbyterian church, and attended his religious duties with the same sincerity which characterized him throughout his active-business life. He was also a member of Noble Lodge, F. & A. M., being a past master. He was president of Oak Hill cemetery company, and one of his aims in life was to make it one of the most beautiful spots in the county, spending time and money in his efforts to achieve that end.
In politics he was a life-long Democrat of the old school, but notwithstanding his political affiliations to that party, he had been elected to and served in many of the borough offices, and at the late election had been elected to the office of councilman by his party and Republican friends. At one time he served as county auditor for a term of two years, having been elected on the Modoc-Democratic ticket.
His first wife died in 1894, and some few yews later he was united in marriage to Mrs. Minnie Gingery, who survives him, together with three sons and one daughter, namely: Roll Bloom, Wier Bloom, Verne Bloom and Mrs. Chas. Bloomer.
The funeral will be held from the residence on Friday afternoon, his pastor, the Rev. Mr. Conley conducting the services at the home and the Masonic fraternity having charge at the graveside.
