David’s father Daniel Ogden was a resident of Cherry Valley, New York State. During the war that place was the scene of a massacre almost equal to Wyoming. All his property was destroyed, and one of his sons, David, was killed by the Indians. His wife, with the remaining children, were compelled to flee to the woods for safety, and remained there during the entire night.1378

David was killed in the Cherry Valley Massacre in Sullivan county PA.[sic]1357

Note: The Cherry Valley Massacre was an attack by British and Seneca forces on a fort and the village of Cherry Valley in eastern New York on the cold, snowy and rainy morning of November 11, 1778, during the Revolutionary War. It has been described as one of the most horrific massacres of the Revolution.1379

NOTE: The creator of David’s FindaGrave Memorial, (Robert Ogden) claims that he was not killed by Indians at the age of 14 and went on to marry and live a long prosperous life. He wrote, “David served in the Revolutionary War. He enlisted when but fourteen years old in 1778. He was captured by a group of Indians and Tories and held for about two and one half years before escaping in 1783 near the end of the war. David again served his country in the war of 1812 under Colonel Stranahan.”1376

NOTE: The compiler of this database is not sure the accuracy of this information. It is widely known that David was killed at the Cherry Valley Massacre which took place on 11 Nov 1778 during the Revolutionary War.3
